We're issuing a warning to parents and carers to make sure that children know the danger of walking or playing on iced-over water. Officers have today had to issue words of advice to children who were reported playing on a frozen reservoir in Denton. Thankfully, nobody was hurt, but this could have been so different. All it takes is for the ice, which will not be close to solid enough to take the weight of people walking and playing on it, to crack. Here is some winter water advice from the Royal Life Saving Society: ⚠️ Ice can be extremely vulnerable even during periods of prolonged cold. Never go onto the ice.⚠️ Keep children within reach and teach children not to go onto ice.⚠️ Keep dogs on a lead near ice and slippery banks.⚠️ If out enjoying a winter walk, walk with friends.⚠️ Stop and think. Keep back from slippery banks and wear footwear with a good grip.⚠️ Stick to well-lit areas - the reduction in daylight in the winter adds to risks around water. Plan your walks in daylight or along well-lit paths.www.rlss.org.uk/pages/category/winter-water-safety ... See MoreSee Less
