Galletly Patient Participation Group – GPPG
Patient Participation Group
GP surgeries are required to have a PPG. These are groups of registered patients who volunteer their time to act as representatives of the patients and the local community. All registered patients of Galletly Practice are deemed to be members of the PPG, and there is a small group of patients that form a steering group and meet regularly in person, we are also looking at forming on-line forums for specific tasks, for patients that are interested but cannot spare the time to attend meetings in person.
The Galletly group aims to bring together patients, GPs and occasionally other staff or invited speakers, for regular meetings to provide feedback and share experiences which can help influence change and benefit the patients and local community. The group is represented at meetings with other PPGs in the area to look at best practice, and works with statuary bodies such as the Integrated Care Board (ICB) for Lincolnshire, to feed back to the local decision makers.
The group works with the Surgery:
- To promote health education and encourage patients to be more responsible for their own health and well-being, we make use of the notice boards in each waiting area for relevant displays.
- To improve two-way communication between patients and the Surgery, allowing an exchange of ideas and open constructive discussions on many topics, looking at improving services and quality of care for everyone.
- To promote a better understanding of the role of General Practice and the NHS in the community.
What a PPG does not do:
- PPG members cannot become involved in individual patient complaints; these should be dealt with via the Practice complaints procedure.
- Members cannot deal with medical or personal issues, nor give out medical advice.
